Food was good, considering this is a country styled diner. My kids enjoyed their food as well. The candied yams were amazing. Our server was terrible. We were seated during a busy lunch hour and we sat for 10 minutes waiting to at least be greeted. I understand being busy as well as how hard waitress work can be, but we weren't even greeted. Finally our server came over and offered us drinks. No introduction like we had watched her do at 2 other tables that eat down after we did. When I asked about kid menus she brought those and left us alone again for 5 more minutes. Finally, when she returned we tried to order drinks and entrees since it had now been more than 15 minutes that we had been there. She rolled her eyes and breathed loudly while we tried to order. She delivered our food when it was ready and never asked us if it was correct or even good. We had to ask a very polite and courteous bus boy for ketchup and napkins. I am very, very disappointed in her service especially since I watched 3 tables around us get excellent service, including bread, drink refills, and other items because she "checked" on those tables. I am not sure if she didn't want an extra table or what, but that isn't the fault of my family. We were excited to eat at the diner, because we hadn't in years. Again the food was good but the service was awful, enough that we probably won't return.
Great southern comfort food. Love the country atmosphere. We drive 1.5 hours to eat there. Never had bad serve. We go there a few times a year, especially in fall and winter.
Nice small store with lots of peanuts, candies and t-shirts.
I have to say, there are multiple signs for Virginia Diner along 460 and I was mite than a little concerned that it was a "tourist trap" and wasn't really going to be worth it, however I was pleasantly surprised. When we were seated I saw the buffet area and assumed we were suckered into a tasteless abyss, but each item I tasted was delicious. The full menu was still an option, but I opted to try the buffet. The pot roast was delicious with a stout onion flavor. The fried chicken was juicy and fresh. The prime rib was a little over-cooked to my liking, but delicious with the horseradish that the server had to go find in "the back". The ham was outstanding! Salty, but not too much. Both the cobbler and the cherry cake were flavorful and hit the spot! They deserve the 5 stars despite the slow service that wasn't quite up to par and "not-so-sweet" sweet tea. Well worth the stop in Wakefield. Didn't get to try the Peanut Pie, but took some peanuts home for snacks. Think what you'd like Cracker Barrel to be and that's what you'll find at Virginia Diner!
Very friendly. Had the buffet with good fried chicken and veggies. Banana pudding was not as great as hoped, but the chocolate cake was real icing and made up for it. Nice selection of peanuts for sale.
I was there today, November 25th, 2017. Cheryl was our waitress. It was about 1:00 p.m. and they were busy but we did get seated rather quickly. My wife had the buffet and our daughter and myself ordered off the menu. The buffet came with all you could eat plus dessert. Everything on the buffet was good and they let me substitute mashed potatoes for the potato chips. However, when I asked to get a small dish of banana pudding off the buffet after spending forty some dollars for our meals, I was declined. Most restaurants would have said, why sure...go ahead but not this one. Cheryl was snippy about it. Over all the food was good.
